Description: Users removing date from name on event creation
Extension / Version: Calendar   /   1.0
Type / Status: Change Request   /   open

Problem

My users seam to like the new calendar on my wiki, and have starting populating it with events. But until now, every single user has removed the date from the event creation input box. Thus, having their event not appear in the calendar at all. The page does say "Type a name instead of ..."; but this is not clear enough. One should always keep in mind that users are newbies and not experienced geeks. Most of the time they don't even take the time to read instruction; they just see an input box into which they type a name. So either:

  • 1) Do not include the date in the input box and automatically add it every time, making it impossible to create events that are not linked to a date.
  • 2) Change the text in the creation page to something like "Your event name must begin with the correct date, please append a name to the page title" (less cool). I did not find where to change the text inside the numerous templates Calendar uses.

A good suggestion. I changed Template:create Event. It should be sufficient to change just that template in your installation.
