Hello GreenReaper,
thanks for restructuring the mediawiki.org page on DPL. Indeed DPL is in mediawiki SVN and I recently got commit access rights there. But still wikinews is using the OLD version ('intersection').
Did you have a look at my copy of the German Wikipedia? http://sesam.dyndns.info:60300/dewiki/index.php/Wikipedia:Hauptseite
I think it is the best prove of concept I have done so far. I want to proceed in two (three) directions:
- convince authors that it is worth having DPL available in Wikipedia
- convince technicians and admins that it it can be tolerated from a technical point of view.
- create a showcase of DPL use within wikinews - to get installed there one should be able to show what can be done better with the newe version
I am looking for assistance in both (all three) regards.
Would you / can you set up a copy of the English Wikipedia and do a similar demo as I have cerated for the German Wikipedia? I think German is not widely enough understood...
Or, alternatively, could you do the same with English wikinews?
Maybe you could do some performance measurements? I did a lot to make DPL faster. For example:
- Code is only loaded if there is a DPL statement in a page
- DPL accepts the Parser Cache of MW if desired
- DPL comes with its own additional cache which can even survive editing of pages containing a DPL statement (if that statement is not touched)
- limits are configurable
- the size of a SQL result set is only calculated if %TOTALPAGES% is used in the header
- flipping through result pages is a lot easier now and more efficient (backward scrolling is supported)
Any help is welcome! I feel that DPL can become a great enhancement for wikis and it is reaching maturity now. Your wiki looks quite prfessional and that is why I am asking you for help...
